For Intermediate Students who find soldering a stumbling block in their path to realising their designs and who wish to gain confidence and understanding in this one day workshop.
this class is designed to focus on the fundamentals of soldering. You will work with wire and sheet to learn and practise the principles of joining metal using a flame.
Using copper to begin with, following demonstrations you will learn about
•different solders, fluxes and types of gas
•pick, pallion, stick, sweat and wire soldering
•the different types of fluxes and gases
•annealing and pickling
•how to utilise tension, binding wire, third hand and other props
•multiple joints
You will go home having gained confidence and understanding in your new skills.
This class runs from 11am to 5pm. Please bring any glasses you need for close-up work. Wear comfortable clothes and closed toed shoes. Long hair is to be tied back when working at the bench.
There will be a short lunch break. You can bring your own lunch or avail yourself of the many local eateries.
